Teenage Pregnancy in the East Midlands Report

EMPHO produces regular reports on Teenage Pregnancy in the East Midlands, which look at national and regional comparisons and variations within the East Midlands. The most recent update is based on provisional 2008 conception data. The report based around the 2005 conception data, also includes sections looking at inequalities, contraception and outcomes of teenage pregnancy.

East Midlands conception data

Statistics on teenage conceptions for England and Wales are produced by the Office of National Statistics and disseminated via the Department for Education. The data are compiled by combining information from registrations of births and notifications of legal abortions. They do not include miscarriages or illegal abortions. The year given relates to the year in which the conception occurred.

APHO: Indications of Public Health in the English Regions – 6: Sexual Health

The sixth in the series of reports “Indications of Public Health in the English Regions”, focused on sexual health, and was published in November 2006. Section 3.1 provides analysis of under 18 conception data at Government Office Region level, whilst section 4.1 provides information on rates of under 18 abortions. Also, section 4.2 provides information about contraception use amongst young people, while section 6.3 gives analysis of results from the National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles, which considers young people’s attitudes towards sex.

East Midlands Sexual Health Services mapping

EMPHO has produced maps showing the locations of sexual health and contraceptive services that are available in each County and Unitary Authority in the region. Each County/Unitary Authority has a set of maps, each including the locations of services, with a selection of background maps which include Index of Multiple Deprivation 2007 data, Under 18 conception 2002-2004 Ward data, Under 18 abortion 2006 data at PCT level, and also a raster map which shows the location of the services on a street map. These maps relate to data provided in 2008.
