Information resources on sexual health
Sexual health is identified as one of the key national priorities for action in the White Paper, Choosing Health.
This webpage currently lists useful resources and reports on sexual health, both from Public Health Observatories and other sources.
As part of the series ‘Indications of Public Health in the English Regions’ commissioned by the Chief Medical Officer, a report on Sexual Health has been produced jointly by the Association of Public Health Observatories (APHO) and the Health Protection Agency (HPA).
The report provides the first comprehensive regional comparison of sexual health in England. Over 70 indicators are included on a wide range of topics from abortions, conceptions and births to HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, access to family planning clinics, and information about lifestyles and attitudes.
A regional summary for the East Midlands is also available, it outlines the main findings of the report and compares the East Midlands position to that of England across the full set of indicators. Sub-regional data are also available.

National Chlamydia Screening Programme - Phase 3 Guide |
| |
The Choosing Health White Paper has a commitment to rollout
a targeted (young people aged under 25) and opportunistic
chlamydia screening programme to all PCTs by March 2007. This guide
has been put together to support and help SHAs and PCTs establish
the programme in local areas. It contains information
and materials that have been developed following experience
with implementing the programme so far and by Phase 1 and 2
programme areas. The information is not prescriptive but aims to
facilitate development of common structures, processes and outputs. |
 |
A local project has been undertaken in conjunction
with EMPHO, using NATSAL percentages to estimate the number of
sexually active
males and females
aged 15-24 by GP practices / PCT and therefore the number needed
to screen 50% of the sexually active population aged 15-24. The
template and calculations are available here. Click here to download
Excel spreadsheet. |
