Alcohol Learning Centre
Is an on-line one-stop-shop which collates, co-ordinates and disseminates learning and promising practice from across the NHS and the Third Sector. It contains alcohol specific policy documents, guidance and tools and provides training resources to support frontline practitioners and commissioners in delivering Identification and Brief Advice (IBA) and the High Impact Changes for Alcohol.

NHS Choices: Alcohol
This NHS website explains how many units there are in typical alcoholic drinks, and what are the lower risk levels of drinking. It draws attention to the health risks of regularly exceeding these lower risk levels.
APHO Alcohol Profiles
North West Public Health Observatory are the national lead on alcohol for APHO and provide local alcohol profiles for PCTs and Local Authorities in England. They provide the most up-to-date data on the National Indicator on alcohol (NI39), including quarterly updates for PCT and LAs.

(ANARP): The 2004 alcohol needs assessment for England
The Alcohol Needs Assessment Research
Project (ANARP) describes the methodology and results of the first ever English
needs assessment. It presents information at national and regional level to
highlight the range of alcohol use disorders in the population and the range of
services currently available to offer treatment for alcohol problems. The
report identifies gaps in services and the regional variations in access to
current treatment.
Alcohol Concern
Alcohol Concern is the national agency on
alcohol misuse. They aim to reduce the incidence and costs of alcohol-related
harm and to increase the range and quality of services available to people with
alcohol-related problems. The website provides information on a wide range of
public policy issues affected by alcohol; including public health, housing,
children and families, crime and licensing.
The Institute of Alcohol Studies
The IAS is an independent organization with
the aim of increasing awareness of alcohol related issues in society.
Encouraging the industry to continue
promoting responsible drinking and to continue to take a role in reducing
alcohol-related harm was identified as one of the four key ways identified in
the alcohol harm reduction strategy to reduce alcohol related harm.
The Portman Group
The Portman Group was set up in 1989 by the
UK's leading drinks producers, which together supply the majority of the
alcohol sold in the UK. It was established to promote sensible drinking, to
help prevent alcohol misuse, to encourage responsible marketing, and to foster
a balanced understanding of alcohol-related issues. The Portman Group is the
principal social responsibility body for the UK alcohol industry. It provides
‘sensible drinking’ advice and supports the government, media, industry and
consumers with research, educational materials and campaigns. It also
encourages responsible marketing practices through its Code of Practice.
