Estimating alcohol consumption from survey data, 2007
The Office for National statistics has published 'Estimating alcohol consumption from survey data: updated method of converting volumes to units'. This report describes improvements in the method used for converting the information provided by survey respondents into standard alcohol units, updating estimates of average alcoholic strength for different types of drink, and taking better account of volumes drunk. These changes will be introduced on all government surveys where appropriate.
Alcohol in Europe, June 2006
In 2003, the European Commission called for
a report on the impact of alcohol; in particular to summarize information on
alcohol related economic factors, health and social problems, health promotion
and policies, and describe options for action at national and European levels.
This is the resulting report.
Alcohol misuse: How much does it cost? 2003
Alcohol has significant costs not only for
the individual but also for the whole economy. This paper estimates the costs
of alcohol misuse in terms of health care, loss of productivity in the
workplace, crime and human suffering.
Cheers? Understanding the relationship
between alcohol and mental health, 2006
This report by the Mental Health Foundation
looks into why people drink alcohol, explores the relationship between mental
health problems and alcohol, and identifies gaps in current policy and the
implications for government, the voluntary sector and individuals.
