Local Authority Child Health Profiles 2012 launched
A Child Health Profile has been developed for every local authority as part of the national Child and Maternal Health Observatory’s (ChiMat) work with EMPHO. The profiles provide a snapshot of child health and wellbeing in March 2012 and are designed to help those working in local authorities, the NHS and the voluntary sector improve outcomes for children and tackle health inequalities. Each profile provides two types of information: background demographic information about the children in each area; and comparative analysis with other local authorities across the country.
Small Area Indicators for JSNA updated
We are pleased to inform you that the Small Area Indicators for Joint Strategic Needs Assessment have been updated. The work has been led by the East Midlands Public Health Observatory (EMPHO) on behalf of the Public Health Observatories in England. The datasets are likely to be of interest to any organisation involved in needs assessment and commissioning of services for local populations, including local authorities, PCTs and the emerging clinical commissioning groups. The data are available at both middle layer super output area (MSOA) and local authority level. The data are also available to view through the local Health website
(http://www.localhealth.org.uk/) as part of the national Health Profiles project. This allows calculation of the indicators for user defined combinations of MSOAs or local authorities.
Local tobacco control profiles for England
The latest version of the local tobacco control profiles have been published by the London Health Observatory on behalf of the Public Health Observatories in England. These profiles bring together a set of indicators that give commissioners and service providers up-to-date information on the health problems caused by smoking, the extent of smoking, and how services across the NHS and local authorities are tackling the issues. The data is presented in easy-to-read spine charts with maps showing variation across England.
National General Practice Profiles tool and
Disease Prevalence Estimates
The network of Public Health Observatories in England has launched the revised National General Practice Profiles tool, and updated Disease Prevalence Estimates. The National General Practice Profiles tool is a web-based tool designed to support GPs, clinical commissioning groups and PCTs to ensure that they are providing and commissioning effective and appropriate healthcare services for their local population. As envisaged in the DH news release at
http://www.dh.gov.uk/health/2011/12/gp-practice-data/ the Practice Profiles tool is an early example of a user-friendly format for viewing raw data, which is designed to support GPs, CCGs and PCTs. The Disease Prevalence Estimates has updated estimates of the prevalence of five diseases (coronary heart disease, cardiovascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypertension and stroke) with significant impact on the health and wellbeing of the population to inform commissioning of services, and to support case finding and targeting of resources. The prevalence estimates are included for the first time as indicators within the profiles tool, and are also provided as a standalone product for further uses.
